Navigating Careers in the Pharmaceutical Industry: Perspectives From a Recent Graduate and Someone on Their Seventh Job

In the 1980s the Pharmaceutical industry largely consisted of global companies that vertically integrated discovery, development, clinical trials, marketing, manufacturing, and distribution. Discovery of new therapies is now largely carried out in Biotech firms, while many other aspects of getting a drug to market are performed by contractors. Choosing a career in the pharmaceutical industry is complicated by the number of types of businesses that work on drug development pipelines. Two perspectives will be given on pharmaceutical careers. Dr. Lei Wang will share thoughts on her recent transition from academia to a study director role in toxicology at Chalres River Labs (CLR). Dr. Liam Moran (formerly at Thermo-Fisher Scientific, Lexicon Pharmaceuticals, AbbVie) will give insights into careers at scientific tool providers, Biotech, Big Pharma and Contract Research Organizations. He will also present a few case studies on bioanalysis from CLR, Ashland.
