MSU Drug Discovery Seminar - Ruben Manuel Luciano Colunga Biancatelli, MD

Novel therapeutic interventions for Lung Injury

There are limited therapeutic interventions for lung injury. Due to the ongoing Pandemic, the investigation of new approaches has become an urgent unmet clinical need. In Prof. John Catravas’ s Laboratory of Lung Endothelial and Parenchymal Pathophysiology of Old Dominion University, we have investigated two class of drugs, HSP90 inhibitors and Protein tyrosine phosphatase 4A3 inhibitors, for chemically induced pulmonary fibrosis and SARS-CoV-2-induced ARDS, respectively. We have performed in vivo studies in wild type and transgenic animals, and in vitro investigations in lung microvascular endothelial cells, which are critically involved in vascular permeability, migration of inflammatory cells and fluid leak during lung injury. Here we present molecular, histological and mechanical evaluation of the above experiments and preliminary data on ongoing projects.
