Joseph Nichols, Ph.D.
A protein biochemist by training and a pharmacologist by education, Dr. Nichols split his focus between discovery research and scale-up production over the last twenty years. His research primarily involved developing protein-based therapeutics in both industrial and academic laboratories. He also has extensive experience in microbial fermentation and protein production in GLP facilities. During his doctoral thesis, he developed a bacterial protein to treat cocaine addiction through structural analysis and protein engineering. Prior to joining MSU, he pursued synthetic biology and genetic editing projects around San Diego's Biotech Beach.
